Unlocking the Commercial and Developmental Potential of PRASA’s National Asset Portfolio

Intersite Asset Investments (SOC) is a state-owned company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA). Established to fulfil PRASA’s secondary mandate, which is to generate income through sweating PRASA’s extensive assets including the real estate portfolio.

Intersite Mandate
  • Leverage PRASA’s property and commercial portfolio to create sustainable revenue streams.
  • Support PRASA’s broader transport and public service objectives by optimizing asset value and enhancing commuter experiences.

Intersite Asset Investments (Intersite) is PRASA’s strategic investment and commercial property arm, responsible for transforming transport-linked assets into high-performing, future-ready economic precincts. With a national footprint spanning high-traffic stations, retail environments, logistics corridors, investments and strategic land holdings, Intersite plays a pivotal role in enabling Private Sector Participation (PSP), urban regeneration and long-term national value creation.

Strategic Pillars

Driving Long-Term Value Across PRASA’s National Asset Portfolio

Intersite’s mandate extends beyond traditional asset management, being anchored in four integrated strategic pillars that collectively unlock commercial performance, operational efficiency and sustainable investments.

Strategic Pillar 1

Through these pillars, Intersite applies forward-looking, commercially disciplined strategies to protect, optimise, and modernise PRASA’s national asset base – turning transport-linked properties into high-value catalysts for sustained economic growth and inclusive development.

ESG & Sustainability

Building Greener, Smarter, and More Inclusive Transport Precincts

Sustainability is a core pillar of Intersite’s investment strategy. We are committed to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all our assets, ensuring responsible management of national infrastructure and long-term resilience for the communities we serve.

Our ESG approach strengthens operational efficiency, reduces environmental impact, and elevates Intersite’s role as a steward of public assets, aligning our work with national priorities for green growth, social development, and ethical governance.

Environmental Stewardship

We implement sustainable infrastructure solutions across the PRASA stations, including:

  • Renewable energy installations (solar PV across stations and depots)
  • Water harvesting and consumption optimisation
  • Energy efficiency upgrades and responsible utilities management
  • Environmental impact mitigation within development projects

These initiatives lower operational costs while enhancing environmental resilience.

Social Impact

Our social mandate focuses on creating safe, inclusive, and economically active precincts through:

  • Station modernisation and safety improvements
  • Support for small businesses and community enterprises
  • Job creation through precinct development and construction
  • Activation of spaces that enhance community access and services

This ensures transport-linked spaces serve as catalysts for social and economic upliftment.

Governance Excellence

Strong governance is central to our investment approach, we maintain

  • Transparent, ethical asset management practices
  • Rigorous risk and compliance frameworks
  • Responsible investment decision-making
  • Alignment with PRASA and national development strategies

This ensures accountability, strategic discipline, and trust across all stakeholder engagements.
