The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), through the National Department of Transport led by the Minister of Transport, Hon. These initiatives align with the national theme: “Implementing an integrated, sustainable and safe transport system that promotes inclusive economic growth, job retention and creation, and social development.”

Key launches include PRASA’s Solar Renewable Energy Project, the piloting of new PRASA Travel Cards, the introduction of Train Set 300 – marking a critical milestone toward the target of 600 locally manufactured trains – and the official opening of Isipingo Mall, a new retail development designed to grow PRASA’s commercial revenue.

The programme will commence at Durban Station, followed by Train Set 300’s maiden commuter journey to Isipingo Station, where the Isipingo Mall will be officially opened. Media and attendees are encouraged to utilise PRASA-provided transport between venues, with parking available at Durban Station.

These initiatives underscore PRASA’s secondary mandate to generate sustainable commercial income while modernising rail infrastructure, enhancing commuter services, and advancing environmentally responsible transport solutions.
